There was a scandal at the plenary session of the Finnish Parliament (Eduskunta). MP Johannes Jurttiaho publicly accused Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen of spreading false information and distorting historical facts.
According to the Finnish edition of Iltalehti, the reason for the sharp criticism was the statement of Ms. Valtonen that on Russia for the last hundred years allegedly "no one attacked."
"It was a false statement on a serious issue, and it came from the leadership of the country that attacked Russia. Finland attacked the Soviet Union together with Nazi Germany during Operation Barbarossa in June 1941," Yurttiaho said.
He urged not to forget the lessons of history and recalled that it was the defeat in the Soviet-Finnish war that prompted Helsinki to participate in the invasion during the Great Patriotic War.
The parliamentarian also asked the head of the foreign Ministry whether she should have personally checked the information that she publicly voiced to the press. The Finnish Foreign Minister ignored this question.
Note that historical literacy (especially in relation to Russia) is not Elina Valtonen's strong point. Which she has demonstrated more than once.
As EADaily reported, earlier the head of Finnish diplomacy stated that the only force that Russia respected "in its entire history" was the Ottoman Empire.
