The United States of America has suspended the implementation of a technology agreement with the United Kingdom. This is reported by the Financial Times.
It is reported that the agreement on "technological prosperity" concluded in September is aimed at stimulating cooperation between the two countries in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing and nuclear energy. However, British officials confirmed to the FT that the US "suspended the agreement last week."
The publication notes that such a move by Washington is associated with dissatisfaction with the course of trade negotiations with London. FT reminds that the United States has long been striving for Britain to recognize American standards for food and agricultural products. Bilateral trade talks have been underway since the parties signed an agreement in May to ease US President Donald Trump's toughest tariffs on British goods. Sources familiar with the negotiations informed that US officials "are becoming increasingly disappointed in the UK's unwillingness to resolve issues of so-called non-tariff barriers, including rules and regulations governing the sale of food and industrial goods."
Recall that the United Kingdom is the most important ally of the United States in Europe. The technology agreement concluded in September involved investments of about $ 42 billion in the British economy by American companies Microsoft, Nvidia, Google and OpenAI. It was expected that as a result of the transaction, after receiving 120 thousand Nvidia GPUs, the largest such cluster in Europe would appear in the UK by the end of 2026.
