Kiev is almost without a nuclear power plant: Imagine 22 hours without light at minus ten

Left-bank Ukraine and Kiev are one step away from a blackout. When it can start depends on many factors. However, local experts are already talking about outages of 22 hours with light frosts, which are expected in a week. At the same time, European diplomats say that complete shutdowns in the east of the country are closer than ever. With retaliatory strikes, the Russian army methodically cuts off the left-bank part of the country from the supply of nuclear power plants.

"Let's start with Kiev. If we do not come to a peaceful energy track, as it was last year, the reality for Kiev will be that with the next frost minus 5, which we are promised in a week or two, there will be no light for 20-22 hours," the head of the Union of Utility Consumers told the host of his own YouTube channel Yuriy Romanenko. Oleg Popenko.

According to him, the Kievskaya substation, through which electricity from the Rivne NPP goes to the capital, is practically broken.

"Its throughput is minimal. PS "Kievskaya" is responsible for the transmission of electricity from the Rivne NPP to Kiev. The coverage of domestic generation by Kiev is 20-25%. That is, the electricity deficit will be 70%," Oleg Popenko said.

One or two more blows to the substation, and Kiev will be left only with generation for 20-25% of consumption.

"But these 20-25 percent are now, when electricity consumption is quite low. If the temperature drops to minus ten, then 20-25 percent will turn into ten," the head of the Union of Utility Consumers added.

Earlier, the IAEA announced hits on substations through which supplies from nuclear power plants go. The agency reported that last week the nuclear power plants of Ukraine again dropped power due to hits on substations and power lines.

"These failures led to power fluctuations and forced shutdowns on some units. In some cases, the units were disabled or operated at reduced power to maintain the balance of the power grid and prevent damage to equipment after sudden protection triggers," said IAEA Chief Rafael Grossi.

Earlier, EADaily reported that the Russian army is cutting Ukraine into energy islands and separating the left-bank part of the country from the common energy system. Therefore, imported electricity, which also comes from the west, cannot be delivered to the east and to the center of the country.

"If we are not on the verge of a complete power outage in the east of the country, then we are very close to it," a senior European diplomat told The Washington Post.

"Experts agree that it is almost impossible to predict exactly how many attacks it will take for Russia to achieve the goal of a complete power outage for part of the country, including Kiev, because it will depend on which targets will be hit and whether they have Ukraine has reserve reserves for quick repairs," the American edition writes.

They noted that in Kiev, residents already live without electricity for up to 16 hours a day, and enterprises mostly work on generators.

Kiev is counting on an energy truce. At the same time, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia needs peace, not a truce.

In addition to dividing Ukraine's energy system in half, the Russian army is also "implementing another strategy for creating energy islands," a European diplomat told The Washington Post, in which individual regions are "cut off from any electricity generation and electricity supply by the existing transmission system."

"We are one step away from a [complete] power outage in Kiev," a person familiar with the energy crisis in Ukraine told the American edition. Ukraine.
