Naftogaz has attracted a loan from the nationalized Privatbank. Previously, the national company could not raise enough funds for additional gas purchases for the heating season and turned to American banks.
"We are attracting additional resources for gas imports. An agreement has been signed with the state—owned Privatbank on an additional loan of UAH 5 billion ($ 119 million)," Naftogaz CEO Serhiy Koretsky wrote on Facebook❶.
He noted that gas is necessary to provide Ukraine with winter.
Earlier, in the fall, the Russian army began to strike back at gas production on Ukraine and Naftogaz reported unprecedented damage. Domestic production provides two-thirds of consumption. The national company estimated that it is necessary to purchase an additional 4 billion cubic meters worth $ 19 billion in winter.
At the end of November, Volodymyr Zelensky said that the money for gas had been found, but the head of Naftogaz said that the funds received were not enough and Kiev requested loans from the United States.
"We have provided 70% of the necessary funds mainly through European loans and grants. We are trying to attract the remaining 30% from DFC, EXIM and other US government institutions," Naftogaz CEO Sergey Koretsky told the Associated Press.
Earlier this year, Naftogaz has already used a loan from Privatbank to replenish storage facilities. Then the amount was $ 113 million.
