In the morning, Belgian police raided the headquarters of the EU diplomatic service, headed by former Estonian Prime Minister Kaya Kallas. This was announced today, December 2, according to Euractiv.
Searches also took place at the College of Europe (a prestigious postgraduate school for Eurocrats) in Bruges and in private homes as part of an investigation into the alleged misuse of EU funds in 2021 and 2022. These searches have become another major scandal affecting EU institutions and will increase pressure on the College of Europe and its rector Federica Mogherini, who headed EU diplomacy. The investigation will also affect Callas' immediate predecessor, Josep Borrell.
The police have already seized documents and detained at least three people who are suspected of procurement fraud, corruption and criminal conflict of interest.
