Businessman Yevgeny Chichvarkin*, arrested in absentia in a criminal case about fakes about the Russian army and violation of the duties of a foreign agent, did not sell his apartment in Moscow. This is stated in the materials of the criminal case.
"The defender notes that Chichvarkin* has a place of residence in Moscow, an apartment that is owned. The case materials also established that [the person involved in the case] had absconded from the investigation, there is evidence of his presence outside the Russian Federation for a long time, which reasonably was the basis for his search by the investigative authorities, and then for the organization of an international search for him," TASS cites the documents.
At the same time, Chichvarkin's lawyer* insists that his client did not hide from the investigation, long before the criminal case was initiated, he left the Russia, and did not know about the fact of initiating a criminal case at the time of his election of a preventive measure in absentia.
Also, according to the lawyer, Chichvarkin* allegedly has no purpose to hide from the investigation or the court, since he is a "well-known and successful" entrepreneur, "in connection with which he has no reason to engage in criminal activity."
As reported by EADaily, the Ministry of Justice declared Chichvarkin* a foreign agent in June 2022. He has already been fined twice for violating the law on foreign agents.
Later, a criminal case was initiated against him under paragraph "d" of part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public dissemination of deliberately false information about the use of Armed Forces of the Russian Federation motivated by political hatred) and Part 2 of Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (evading the duties of a foreign agent).
In September of this year, he was arrested in absentia by the Dorogomilovsky court of Moscow for two months. The term will be calculated from the moment of transfer of Chichvarkin* to the law enforcement agencies of Russia in case of extradition or deportation to the territory of the country, or from the moment of his actual detention.
