Russians will have the shortest working winter in more than 20 years. During the three winter months, citizens of our country will have to work only 56 days.

This is evidenced by the official calendar of holidays and weekends for 2025-2026. It follows from it that the 12-day New Year's weekend will contribute to a record-breaking "lazy" winter to a large extent.

Recall that Russians will begin to rest on Thursday, December 31. The last day of the year was made non-working due to the postponement of weekends — Saturday, January 3, will be moved to Friday, January 9, and Sunday, January 4, will be moved to December 31.

Thanks to these transfers, the New Year holidays of 2026 will last a record 12 days. Yaroslav Nilov, head of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs, commented on the situation to the TASS news agency.

"Let our citizens be able to spend more time not at work, but at home, with relatives, with loved ones, and let everyone have a good mood in the harsh winter," he said.

It is not difficult to calculate that after the long New Year holidays, Russians will have 19 working days in January. And then the series of winter non-working days will continue in February.

This year, in honor of Defender of the Fatherland Day, citizens will have a rest from February 21 to 23.

As EADaily reported, earlier experts calculated the approximate cost of a New Year's holiday table for four Russians. It amounted to more than 10 thousand rubles.
