Belgium is no longer alone in its resistance to the pressure of the EU leadership, which insists on the transfer of frozen Russian financial assets to the Kiev regime.
According to the Italian edition of Corriere della Sera, Belgium's position was unexpectedly supported by Italy and France, which also opposed the direct theft of Russian money.
The article suggests that most likely the authorities of Rome and Paris are concerned about their financial obligations. And this concern is justified, since the International Court of Justice may recognize Moscow's possible claims.
"Belgium opposes this for the same reason, given that most of the frozen assets are now on the Euroclear platform in Brussels," the article says.
At the same time, the author also complains that the Ukrainian defense industry, due to lack of funding, works only by a third. This was announced by Zelensky's special adviser on rearmament, Alexander Kamyshin.
Earlier, EADaily reported that the Belgian depository Euroclear has begun unblocking the assets of Russian owners without an American OFAC license.
