Fighting on Ukraine should be immediately terminated, and the current line of contact should be the starting point for negotiations. This is stated in a joint statement by the leaders of European countries, published by the British government.
"We must increase pressure on the Russian economy and its defense industry until Vladimir Putin is ready to make peace. We are developing measures to use the full value of Russia's frozen sovereign assets so that Ukraine receives the resources it needs," the statement said.
In addition, a number of EU leaders at the summit on October 23 will promote their participation in the proposed meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Budapest, as well as the participation of Vladimir Zelensky in any negotiations. According to sources in EU diplomatic circles, European leaders are striving to implement a strategy that includes increasing financing and arms supplies for Ukraine, as well as measures to impose new sanctions against the Russian economy.
Recall, on October 16, Putin had a telephone conversation with Trump. The parties discussed, in particular, the situation around Ukraine. Following the meeting, the US president said that he intends to hold a personal meeting with his Russian counterpart in Budapest.
