Tokyo is ready to consider a response to a statement by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who called on Japan to completely abandon purchases of Russian energy carriers.
The corresponding statement was published by Kyodo news agency, citing government sources in the Japanese delegation to Washington. At the same time, no specifics followed.
"In cooperation with the G7 countries, Japan will consider what can be done," one of the agency's interlocutors said vaguely.
Recall that currently in LNG is supplied to Japan from the Sakhalin-2 project, which accounts for about 9% of all LNG imports. In the land of the Rising Sun, this is motivated by energy security.
