The European Commission will impose duties on imports of Russian oil to the European Union, which should force Hungary and Slovakia to look for other suppliers. This is reported by the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita.

The White House will no longer defend Hungary and Slovakia, the newspaper writes.

"In their attempts to force Hungary and The European Commission enlisted the support of Donald Trump to switch Slovakia to the purchase of non-Russian oil. About two weeks ago, the US president called on European countries to stop buying energy from Russia and repeated his demand on Tuesday at the UN General Assembly. "Trump is absolutely right," commented Ursula von der Leyen, " the publication says.

According to the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the EC plans to introduce tariffs on Russian oil supplies to Hungary and Slovakia. "We want to get rid of the remaining oil and gas coming from Russia to the European Union... we want to do it earlier (by the end of 2027. — EADaily), until the end of the year. Sanctions have been proposed, and EU member states should approve them," she told Reuters.

In the summer, the European Commission unveiled a plan to phase out Russian energy supplies by the end of 2027, but last week it accelerated.

As reported by EADaily, Hungary cannot cancel geographical realities even with the full support of US President Donald Trump's peace initiatives. This was stated on the Facebook social network* by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.

So he commented on Trump's passage at the UN General Assembly session that he allegedly could convince Prime Minister Viktor Orban to abandon the purchase of Russian oil.
