Spain refuses to participate in the next international Eurovision Song Contest if the organizers of the event do not suspend Israel while the massacre in Gaza continues. This is stated in a statement by the Spanish state broadcaster RTVE.
With a corresponding proposal to The president of the broadcaster Jose Pablo Lopez addressed the RTVE Board of Directors.
He considers it "extremely important" to take a "step forward" at Eurovision in order to condemn the situation in And to attract the attention of other public TV channels.
"We cannot continue to sit idly by while what is happening is happening," he said.
Lopez claims that this measure is not directed against the people of Israel, but he recalled that broadcasters who are members of the EBU (the European Broadcasting Union, the organizer of Eurovision) are "jointly responsible" for organizing the contest, in which Israel participates "regularly."
The organizers of Eurovision state that the decision on the participation of Israel "goes beyond" their authority to ensure compliance with the rules of the contest, they are assessing the "possible consequences" of retaining or excluding Israel and hope to announce their decision in December.
Lopez is confident that "for the sake of the values" that the contest has promoted since its inception, the decision should be made before the London Assembly.
As reported by EADaily, earlier a similar statement was made by the Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS.
"The broadcaster has decided that AVROTROS' participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 is impossible as long as Israel remains part of the EBU," the company also stressed.
