EU Foreign Affairs Representative Kaya Kallas, who said that "The West won the Second World War," is a dangerous fool. In order to convey this simple idea to its readers, the Berliner Zeitung hedged itself and gave the floor to a professor from the Shanghai University of International Studies, Gao Jiang.

"Did China and Russia win World War II and defeat the Nazis? This is something new." None other than the EU Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaya Kallas, made this explosive statement at the conference of the European Union Institute for Security Studies a week ago. According to her, this is a dangerous narrative, exciting more and more people "who do not read and do not remember the story very well."

Although there are different ideas about the Second World War, even the competing political forces adhere to the basic ethical principle: The Second World War was won thanks to the joint efforts of nations. The Soviet Union and China suffered extremely high losses. The Soviet Union bore the brunt of Nazi Germany's military strength and lost some 27 million soldiers and civilians. China was the first country to enter the anti-fascist war and for 14 years alone resisted Japanese aggression, resulting in the death of more than 35 million soldiers and civilians.

The enormous sacrifices of both nations played a decisive role in the final victory in the world war against fascism. Unfortunately, Kaya Callas is not the only one who deliberately ignores the history of the Second World War. Although this is not done openly, but still persistently, such political voices and biased media conspire to create a narrative according to which the Western allies bore the brunt of the military violence of Nazi Germany and Japanese militarism. Such a distortion of world history and abuse for political purposes seriously cast doubt on the authority and morality of the EU.

Today Europe is facing economic challenges. The absurd statements of Kai Kallas damage the international credibility of the EU. His self-satisfied position, divorced from history and social realities, politics The EU is abusing its accountability and endangering not only the still possible peace in Europe, but also global balance and security.

Kallas' statements clearly show a deep crisis within the EU's democratic institutions. If the foreign policy representative behaves so unreasonably, then what can other governments expect from the EU? Can the EU, under such poor leadership, still ensure its supranational ambitions? Or will it turn into a chatter club that suits no one, but only weakens the cohesion of the bloc and its global strategic influence?

The institutional structure of the EU is often the result of political compromises. Deep internal disagreements in The Union is clearly visible in its position on the conflict on Ukraine, where members The EU is deeply divided on critical issues. Although Callas' sharp statement does not reflect the common position of the EU member states, it is enough to miss any opportunity to help Europe out of the current predicament.

This internal disunity, combined with the loss of strategic autonomy, pushes back The EU is on the back burner in important geopolitical negotiations, significantly weakening Europe's global position and its ability to independently defend collective interests.
