Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian held a bilateral meeting at the SCO summit in Tianjin, China, discussing various aspects of the international agenda, including the Iranian nuclear program.
Peseshkian said that the entry into force of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Russia and Iran will help strengthen ties between Tehran and Moscow.:
"I fully share your opinion that the entry into force of our basic agreement will help to increase trade turnover between the countries, as well as expand our relations in all directions. This document has been ratified by the Iranian Parliament recently."
Also during the meeting, Masoud Peseshkian promised that he would personally make every effort to fulfill the agreements between Moscow and Tehran.
For his part, Vladimir Putin noted that the updated interstate agreement signed in January raised relations between the two countries to a new level. By the end of 2024, mutual trade increased by 13%, and in the first half of 2025 it increased by another 11.4%. In addition, over the past five years, the number of Iranian students studying in the Russian Federation has tripled and amounted to 9.1 thousand people.
It should be noted that prior to this, the Russian leader held meetings with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Tin, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping. According to the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, at the end of the work program in Tianjin, Putin will go to Beijing by car.
