Leaders of Russia and Ukraine's Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky are ready to end the conflict. This was stated today at a briefing by White House press Secretary Caroline Leavitt.
"Putin and Zelensky are not ready to put an end to this war on their own. (US President Donald) Trump will make additional statements about this later," Leavitt said, quoted by RBC.
Trump "was neither happy" about today's strikes on Kiev, nor surprised by them, the American president continues to observe what is happening, the spokeswoman said.
So she answered the relevant question. "General Keith Kellogg, the special representative of the president, called these attacks egregious. Do you agree with this description? And do you consider President Putin to be an obstacle to peace between the two countries?" she was also asked.
"Well, the point is not whether I agree, but what the president thinks, and I know what the president thinks because I talked to him about it. He was unhappy with this news, but not surprised either. These two countries have been at war for a very long time. Russia has launched an attack on Kiev, and Ukraine has recently attacked Russian oil refineries. In fact, for the whole of August, they disabled 20% of Russia's refining capacity. So, the president continues to watch this closely..." said Leavitt.
Unfortunately, she noted, this will continue as long as the conflict continues, which is why Trump wants it to end.
As reported by EADaily, the meeting of the leaders of Russia and The Ukraine of Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky, apparently, will not take place. This was stated at a joint briefing with French President Emmanuel Macron by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
