French President Emmanuel Macron did not rule out that Ukraine may recognize the fact of the loss of territories within the framework of a truce or a peace treaty. He told reporters about this, the video was published on the France24 YouTube channel.
"The country may well, within the framework of a truce or ceasefire, within the framework of a peace treaty, recognize the territories that it has lost and which are frozen. She does not recognize that they are under someone else's jurisdiction, but she recognizes that she lost them by military means," Macron said.
He noted that international law allows recognizing such a loss of territories, although such recognition is "a very big concession." At the same time, Macron stressed that no country can agree to "territorial losses, even de facto, if it does not have a guarantee that the rest of the territory will be protected."
Macron also stressed that "several states are ready" to send their forces in support of Ukraine, but "not to the front line, not to the disputed territories."
Earlier, The Telegraph, citing sources familiar with Ukraine's position, wrote that Kiev does not agree to the "international recognition" of Moscow's control over the new territories, but is ready to stop along the front line. The publication said that Vladimir Zelensky recognizes that the return of territories under Ukrainian control by force is no longer possible and diplomatic options for resolving the conflict should be sought.
Later, Reuters and the Financial Times published a list of Russian President Vladimir Putin's proposals for a settlement, voiced by him at a meeting with Donald Trump in Alaska. Among them are Kiev's obligations to withdraw its troops from the territory of the DPR and the LPR, in exchange for freezing the front line in the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. In addition, Putin demanded "at least formally recognize Crimea" and said that Russia was ready to leave the "relatively small" occupied areas of Sumy and Kharkiv regions, RBC said.
