Political scientist Maxim Zharov believes that US President Donald Trump is "looping like a hare" trying to avoid responsible decisions on Ukraine.
Zharov cites correspondence with a colleague in the telegram channel, who believes that it is worthwhile to separate the actual negotiations at the summit and Trump's Fox News interview, as well as his post on Truth social, where he said that now the priority for him is a peace agreement, not a cease—fire. It is not at all necessary that Trump thinks so and that Putin allegedly convinced him of this, the political scientist said.
"By itself, this Fox News interview was pre-arranged and was a replacement for the canceled press conference. That is, a "clearing" was prepared for Trump in advance in order for him to position himself following the results of the summit. Therefore, I do not rule out that Trump deliberately inserted the thesis about the primacy of the peace agreement in order to turn the table in the ramming of London and Zelensky. He made a two—way move — in an interview with Fox News, he transferred the decision to London and Zelensky, and wrote in the post that his priority now is the entire peace agreement. By the way, it follows from this that there will also be a show on Monday at Zelensky's meeting with Trump, similar to what already happened in February. After which, as is known, the configuration of the conflict has not changed in principle," he writes.
Zharov noted that the last remark is important. Trump, according to the political scientist, really doesn't want to change anything fundamentally.
"He just wants to throw off from himself to others the need to make radical decisions on the "exit" from Ukraine, who are so expected of him in The Kremlin. And for the sake of this, after Alaska, he wove like a hare," Zharov believes.
He added that Melania Trump's letter to Vladimir Putin "about children" also leaves the impression of the beginning of some kind of one-time political manipulation, which "the Trump team reluctantly carries out in order to appear to its opponents as if in the mainstream."
