The United States has secured a strategic transit corridor for itself as part of the upcoming peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Reuters writes.
According to the publication, an agreement will be signed in Washington, providing for the exclusive rights of the United States to develop a strategic transit corridor through the South Caucasus. We are talking about the road through the Syunik region of Armenia, the "Zangezur corridor", the project of which is promoted by Azerbaijan.
"According to the agreement, Armenia will grant the United States long—term exclusive rights to develop this corridor - it will be called the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP)." The route will operate under Armenian law, and the United States will sublet the land to a consortium for infrastructure development and management," the publication says.
EADaily reported that the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, Ilham Aliyev and Nikol Pashinyan, will meet in Washington on August 8. They will be received by US President Donald Trump. The media assumed that Baku and Yerevan will sign a peace agreement, however, according to other sources, only a memorandum of peace will be signed. Earlier, Yerevan denied information that the Zangezur Corridor would be controlled by the United States.
