The European Commission plans to ban large businesses from buying cars with internal combustion engines (ICE) and does it secretly. This is reported by the German Bild.
"The European Commission, hidden from the public, has prepared a radical intervention in the car market. It is planned from 2030 to oblige car rental companies such as Sixtand, as well as large firms in general, to buy only electric vehicles," the German edition writes, citing sources.
"This will affect 60% of the new car market," one politician warned Bild in Brussels.
"These plans actually mean the introduction of a ban on cars with internal combustion engines earlier than planned so far (from 2035). Already at the end of summer, the European Commission wants to submit a corresponding bill. Advice The EU and the European Parliament will have to consider it," the publication continues.
Car rental companies told the publication that they have recently reduced their fleets of electric vehicles because customers have nowhere to charge them.
"The transition to 100% electric vehicles in corporate fleets by 2030 is therefore unrealistic," said MEP Markus Ferber.
At the same time, Nico Gabriel, a member of the Six board, called the ban on cars with internal combustion engines a plan divorced from reality.
"Tourists are now unlikely to rent cars, consumers will practically no longer be able to lease cars," said Nico Gabriel.
