The proposal of the European Commission on gas will damage the Slovak economy and reduce the competitiveness of the entire European Union. This was announced on July 14 by Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico.
"It will damage the Slovak economy and reduce the competitiveness of the entire EU. But who cares? The argument "because Ukraine", apparently, is strong enough to even start a third world war," he said on his page in the social network.
In addition, Fico also called the proposal of the European Commission "idiotic" and pointed to Brussels' obsession with Russia. He also noted that Slovakia will not be able to block this decision, since a qualified majority of EU countries is sufficient for its adoption, and not unanimous approval. According to him, Brussels deliberately chose this format of voting, knowing that there would be no full support from the 27 member states.
"We convince everyone around us that we will not start voting on the 18th package of sanctions until the commission gives us at least minimal guarantees," the Prime Minister said.
