MEP and ex-presidential candidate of Poland Grzegorz Brown (6.34% of the vote) caused a storm of indignation with his anti-Semitic statements.
Speaking on the radio, MEP Brown said:
"Ritual murders are a fact, and Auschwitz with its gas chambers, unfortunately, is fake."
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who is in Rome, was one of the first to appreciate the historical lie from the mouth of the MEP:
"It's a shame! We must do everything so that Poland is not associated in the world with such people and actions," Tusk said, adding that he was annoyed by the slowness of the special services and the prosecutor's office.
"I will not give them orders at the site of the operation, but I recommend that they act decisively," the Polish prime minister said.
EADaily reminds that Grzegorz Brown, as a member of the European Parliament, enjoys immunity from immediate prosecution. It is worth noting that the host of the radio show interrupted the interview after what Brown said, and deputy Anna Maria Zhukovskaya said she would appeal to the prosecutor's office. However, the prosecutor's office of the Warsaw district of Sredmestye-Severoc has already announced the start of an investigation.
"The District Prosecutor's Office is investigating Grzegorz Brown's denial of Nazi crimes committed in the Auschwitz concentration camp in a radio broadcast. The case is being investigated under article 55 of the Law on the Institute of National Remembrance, which provides for punishment for public denial of Nazi crimes," the prosecutor's press release says.
Pyotr Tsivinsky, director of the museum at the site of the Auschwitz concentration camp, also commented on the situation.:
"Grzegorz Brown's statement is a blatant denial of the historical truth and the introduction of manipulation into public discussion based on anti-Semitism, lies and hatred. This statement is unworthy not only of a public figure — in this case, a member of the European Parliament. It's just a shameful statement. Such words have no place in the political, media and public sphere. We strongly emphasize that denying the existence of gas chambers is not only a manifestation of anti—Semitism and the ideology of hatred, but also a crime in Poland."
