Russia should "prepare for the worst" in connection with the actions of NATO countries, therefore it is necessary to continue to ensure its security and defense capability. This was stated to journalists by Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko.
"I think there was a common opinion expressed during our meeting today that we should prepare for the worst. It is not necessary to hope that some plans will not be implemented or will not be implemented to the end. We must calmly continue to ensure our security and defense capability," the diplomat said after a meeting of the United Russia faction group in the State Duma.
Grushko stated that the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance are preparing for a military conflict with Russia.
"A very important and deep conversation took place on a very serious problem. In fact, it was about war and peace, about the current security situation, about military preparations by NATO and The European Union. They are specifically preparing for a military clash with the Russian Federation," the deputy minister stressed.
EADaily adds: the British newspaper Financial Times reported that the port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands has begun reserving places for NATO ships with military cargo and planning routes for the transfer of weapons in preparation for a potential war with Russia. Landing exercises will also be held in the seaport. The port of Rotterdam, which is considered the largest in Europe, has received weapons before, but even at the height of the Cold War it did not have a special berth for this. Now a part of the container terminal is being re-equipped for these needs in order to ensure the safe loading of ammunition from one ship to another.
Budewijn Simons, the director of the harbor, said that the logistics of military supplies will be coordinated with the port of Antwerp in neighboring Belgium (the second largest in the EU). — especially when receiving goods from the USA, Great Britain and Canada. "We see less and less competitors in each other. Of course, we compete where necessary, but we work together where we can," he said. As Simons stressed, if it is necessary to transport large volumes of weapons, then Rotterdam will turn to Antwerp or other ports, so that they take over part of the load, and vice versa.
