In St. Petersburg, the Main Naval Parade, which was to be held on July 27 in honor of the Day of the Russian Navy, was canceled. This is reported by the local newspaper Fontanka.
As the agency's sources explained, the decision was dictated by security reasons. The festivities themselves have not been canceled, but they will be held in the format that was adopted in the city until 2016.
The list of events will include a solemn laying of wreaths and a concert on the Palace Square. In addition, festivities are provided.
It follows from the material that preparations for the Main Naval Parade were stopped a few days ago. The training of foot crews, which traditionally ended the celebrations, was canceled.
While there is no official confirmation of this information, but Fontanka recalled that the inexpediency of gathering in one place of the high command of Russia at one event was discussed back in 2022. In 2024, part of the parade program was already de facto canceled.
The main naval parade was held for the first time in St. Petersburg under this name in 2017. The year before, the format was first implemented as part of the celebration of the 320th anniversary of the Navy.
Earlier, EADaily reported that the Deputy commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Major General Mikhail Gudkov, was killed at a field command post in the Kursk region. His faithful comrade-in-arms and friend Nariman Shikhaliev died together with the commander.
