The National Guard forces will be deployed to Los Angeles amid protests against the raid of the US authorities in search of illegal migrants. Earlier, a raid by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in downtown Los Angeles escalated into clashes with protesters.

"Tonight we will introduce the National Guard. We will continue to do our job. We will fight back against these people. You can protest as much as you want. You have rights guaranteed by the First Amendment, but if you cross this line, attack officers or destroy property, you will be held accountable," Thomas Homan, curator of border security issues in the administration of US President Donald Trump, told Fox News.
"President Trump has signed a presidential memorandum to deploy 2,000 National guardsmen to counter the lawlessness that has been allowed to spread," said White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt.

California is traditionally considered a stronghold of the Democratic Party, and Trump has repeatedly criticized it. Last month, he threatened to cut state funding due to the participation of a transgender athlete (the LGBT movement is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) in competitions. Earlier, the administration had already canceled flood prevention projects worth $ 126.4 million and criticized the actions of the California authorities to combat wildfires.

On Saturday, California Governor Gavin Newsom threatened that the state could refuse to pay federal taxes in response to a possible large-scale reduction in federal funding by the Trump administration.
