Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni has called for the completion of the creation of a capital markets union in the European Union to prevent capital outflows from the bloc, Reuters reports.
"We consider it necessary to complete the unification of capital markets as soon as possible," Meloni said at the national meeting of Italy's main employers' organization (Confindustria), which was held in Bologna.
For her part, the president of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, recently stated that the continuing difficulties with innovation in Europe and the gloomy political background make it necessary to unite its capital markets, and inaction in this area costs precious time.
"The need to integrate our capital markets has increased. This growing urgency is not supported by clear progress towards the goal," the economist warned.
