Dodon: Sandu made a mistake by interfering in the Romanian elections, and the Suveranists did not lose

Former Moldovan President Igor Dodon criticized the head of state Maia Sandu. The chairman of the opposition Party of Socialists in the republic said that its "public interference in the election campaign in Romania was a mistake" and caused a natural reaction from the Romanian society.

According to the politician, the actions of Sandu, who officially supported one of the candidates during the Romanian election campaign (Bucharest Mayor Nicusor Dan, who eventually won), were perceived by many Romanian citizens as unacceptable. He added that the critical reaction of Romanian citizens to this is natural and justified.

"We respect the choice of Romanian citizens and want relations with Romania to be based on respect and cooperation," Dodon stressed.

The socialist believes that despite the victory of the pro-European candidate, the idea of Suveranism and the protection of national interests has not been defeated. The overall results of the vote showed that almost half of the population supported the idea of protecting the sovereignty and national interests of Romania. The head of the Alliance for the Unification of Romanians AUR party, George Simion, was trusted by 46.40% of voters in the second round.

Before the vote, he accused the Sandu regime of interfering in the elections, expressing confidence that the Moldovan authorities are falsifying the vote on their territory.

"No politician, whether in Bucharest or Chisinau, has the right to encroach on the sovereignty of two states. I call for building balanced bilateral relations, free from interference and political games," Igor Dodon concluded.

Recall, after the vote count, Dan expressed special gratitude to Sandu, and observers and experts expressed doubts about the transparency of diaspora voting, as it was in the 2024 presidential elections of Moldova. Then the manipulation of votes abroad allowed Maia Sandu to get a second mandate.

As EADaily reported, the leader of the Moldovan opposition bloc Pobeda, Ilan Shor, stated that "The West repeated its fraudulent trick in the elections in Romania." A similar scenario, Shor warns, will be applied at the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova this autumn.
