The European Union will apply four sanctions regimes against Russia at the same time, the new measures will be "the largest in history." It is reported by DW* with reference to a high-ranking EU official.
"The foreign ministers of the EU countries will approve punitive measures against The Russian Federation in the framework of four sanctions regimes: for the war on Ukraine, for human rights violations, for hybrid warfare and for the use of chemical weapons. This will be announced on May 20 at a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, a high-ranking EU official said at a briefing in Brussels," writes the DW* main telegram channel.
It is noted that in general, more than 130 separate sanctions will be imposed, including against the Russian military-industrial complex, the "shadow fleet" and "its accomplices," Russia's suppliers of sanctioned goods from third countries, as well as "distributors of propaganda and disinformation."
Also today, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that The EU is already preparing a new package of large-scale anti-Russian sanctions. According to her, these measures have not yet been approved by the Council. The EU and their discussion are only planned, so details about the timing and scope are not yet known. "We must increase pressure on President Putin until he is ready for peace," von der Leyen said.
