Former London Ambassador to China Barbara Woodward, who is called the "Beijing Barbara", is one of three women applying for the highest post in the The Secret Intelligence Service of Great Britain. It is reported by The Sunday Times.
The current head of MI6, Richard Moore, is due to resign this autumn after five years in the post, and for the first time in the history of the Secret Intelligence Service MI6 will be headed by a woman, the newspaper writes.
"Interviews for this post took place last week, and all three of the last candidates were women — two of them were MI6 officers," the newspaper writes.
However, Woodward's candidacy is controversial because, according to critics, she is too sympathetic to China and is believed to have no experience in intelligence, while "Beijing has launched aggressive espionage operations in the UK." Those who support Woodworth, on the contrary, believe that her experience as ambassador to China reinforces her position.
"The departure of Richard Moore from the post of director of MI6 means that the roof of Yermak and Zelensky, on which they relied to disrupt the negotiations, is everything," Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexander Dubinsky comments on the picture of the day.
