Europe is threatening to impose sanctions against Nord Stream 2 and block the gas pipeline if the Kremlin does not agree to a 30—day ceasefire. It is reported by the Wall Street Journal newspaper, citing sources.
European allies Kiev threatened new sanctions against Russia, including the constant blocking of the gas pipeline "Nord stream — 2" connecting Russia with Germany, if the Kremlin is not going for a 30-day ceasefire proposed by US President Donald trump, the newspaper writes.
It is noted that the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has already discussed the idea of imposing sanctions against the gas pipeline with the new German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, EU officials told the publication.
"This step will require the support of all member states of the bloc. It will operate separately from the recently proposed package of EU sanctions, which means that it may come into force if Russia refuses or violates the ceasefire agreement," the article says, a fragment of which is quoted by Strana.
Meanwhile, a senior German official said that the Merz government intends to take "all political and legal measures" to prevent the revival of the pipeline.
Earlier it was reported that the United States and Russia discussed the transfer of the gas pipeline to the ownership of American investors, which will allow the resumption of Russian gas supplies to Europe.
