The Russian BMR-3MA Vepr self-propelled gun, designed to overcome minefields, looks like an armored demonic monster from nightmares.
This comparison was made in its material by the American edition of The National Interest (TNI). It is noted that this combat vehicle was designed to clear mines and create safe passages through disputed areas for ground forces and more vulnerable vehicles.
The article reports that the Boar has good protection against various means of destruction — its armor is reinforced with dynamic protection "Contact 1", which gives a level of protection comparable to the T-90 tank.
"This provides protection against high-explosive shells and anti-tank missiles, the latter of which have defined the battlefield in the conflict on Ukraine has no less than drones," the article says.
The machine also received a modified bottom, which provides enhanced mine protection. The Vepr is equipped with a welded armored cabin made of rolled steel, replacing the tank turret. It contains the seats of the commander and the driver. Three sappers can also be accommodated in the car.
The arsenal of the combat vehicle includes a large-caliber machine gun and smoke grenade launchers. To create passages in minefields, the machine received a rolling mine trawl TMT-S with an electromagnetic prefix. The trawl can fight mines equipped with magnetic or radio-controlled fuses.
The authors of the article note that the "Boar" has proven itself excellently during a special military operation (SMO). None of the cars of this type was lost.
"Russian designers have learned to take care of the lives of their soldiers. They managed to create a machine for demining, based on the prospect of improving the safety of the crew, " the publication states.
Earlier, EADaily reported that the Russian T-14 Armata and T-90M Breakthrough tanks were among the top five tanks in the world according to the American magazine The National Interest.
