More than 500 people joined the procession of the "Immortal Regiment" in Seoul, this is a record number for the entire duration of the action, RIA Novosti correspondent reports today, May 6.

The action was organized with the support of the Coordinating Council of the Organization of Russian Compatriots in the Republic of Korea (CSRC), the Embassy Russian Federation and Rossotrudnichestvo. It began in one of the squares of Seoul near the Russian Embassy on Monday at 13.30 (07.30 Moscow time). Volunteers of the All-Russian public movement "Volunteers of Victory" participated in the preparation of the march and the action itself.

Among those who came were South Korean citizens interested in Russian culture and history. Several young people came in the reconstruction military uniform of the Soviet Army.

"As far as I can judge from the feedback of compatriots and my colleagues who regularly took part in this event, this year it is the largest and most carefully organized event," explained Russian Ambassador to South Korea Georgy Zinoviev. "I do not think that in the capital of South Korea, on the central street of the city, on Gwanghwamun Square have you ever seen a procession with victory flags, with banners dedicated to the "Immortal Regiment", and with music, songs of the war years. It was, I think, an unforgettable sight that will go down in the history of the movement of compatriots in the Republic of Korea."

Seoul police escorted Russian citizens to the rally and organized safe passage through the streets of the city. After the end of the procession, all participants attended a festive concert called "Not subject to oblivion." During the concert, poems, songs of the war years were performed, musical and dance performances were held. The Russian Ambassador delivered a congratulatory speech thanking all participants, organizers and spectators, as well as colleagues from Belarus, including Ambassador Andrei Chernetsky.

"Just like 80 years ago, the victory will be ours… The special military operation is still ongoing against the same enemy with whom our ancestors fought, against Nazism, fascism in its new guise, and I am sure it will end in victory, which will ensure a peaceful sky and security for us and our children for many years," the ambassador summed up.

According to the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, today the Immortal Regiment marches have already been held in more than 30 countries, and in some cities they were held for the first time after a long break.
