Lithuanian Minister of National Defense Dovile Shakalene made paranoid remarks in the hope of intimidating Russia.
In a TV interview with the Lietuvos Rytas media holding, Shakalene stated that "we are preparing for a battle on enemy territory." Her reasoning should be published verbatim so that ordinary Lithuanians do not have a shadow of doubt about the inadequacy of the minister:
"If we are fully prepared, and the Russians know and understand that we are fully ready, we will definitely not sit quietly and wait and recapture our territory. And if necessary, we will fight on enemy territory so that the response is quick and tough — and in this case we have a real chance to avoid this war."
At the same time, Shakalene admitted that there is no reason to believe that during the Russian-Belarusian Zapad exercises in the autumn of 2025, "strikes on the Baltic States" could be carried out. But she stated that at the same time "we will have a lot of diverse, intensive exercises."
EADaily clarifies that according to a recent opinion poll commissioned by the Elta news agency, 42% of Lithuanian residents support the Minister of Defense Shakalene. By the way, the other day, the commander-in-chief of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, General Raimundas Vaikshnoras, suggested that "the operation to defeat the Russian military grouping and capture the Kaliningrad region will take several days."
