The United States wants the Central and Eastern Europe joined their "energy freedom" strategy rather than following the region's broader plans to transition to a zero-emission economy. This, according to Bloomberg, was stated by US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright.
An American official who was present in Warsaw on the sidelines of the Three Seas summit clarified that Western Europe had chosen the wrong path of "imposing an expensive climate policy from above." Chris Wright added that investments in renewable energy sources affect economic growth and increase the profits of foreign companies, and that is why Eastern Europe should follow a different trajectory.
"It's time for Central Europe to make a choice. We warmly welcome you and invite you to join our Energy Freedom and Prosperity for Citizens team," Wright addressed the participants of the Warsaw Conference.
Under President Donald Trump, the United States began withdrawing from the Paris Agreement, a historic treaty concluded in 2015 and aimed at slowing global warming. The Trump administration has also announced a number of measures to increase the use of coal and wants to contribute to an increase in oil and natural gas production.
Chris Wright said that although climate change is a "real physical phenomenon," it is not the "most pressing problem" in the world.
"In fact, the unequivocal conclusion of economic research on climate change is that net zero by 2050 is absolutely the wrong goal. Not only is this unattainable, but blind pursuit of this goal will do more harm than climate change," the American official summed up.
