Solemn events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the city were held in Brno, Czech Republic.
Events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the city were held in Brno, Czech Republic. Valery Terentyev, Counselor of the Russian Embassy, also participated in the solemn ceremony. He noted the heroism and sacrifice of Soviet, Czech and Slovak soldiers who fought shoulder to shoulder for freedom.
"Due to the importance of the events that took place in April and May 1945, the city supports other projects. For example, the Institute of Peoples' Memory is preparing an exhibition dedicated to the eightieth anniversary of the liberation of Brno, where those interested will learn about the stories of eyewitnesses from Brno and the South Moravian region. This weekend there will also be an event in Szpilberk called Brno 1945, which will take place this weekend in Szpilberk. "The program will include the arrival of the Red Army in Brno, there will be a large camp with uniformed soldiers in Shpilberka, and on Sunday a reconstruction of the battle using antique equipment will be carried out in a sand pit," Brno marketing representative Katerzhina Yaroshova told the Brněnská drbna on the eve.
The publication noted that at the end of the Second World War Brno was going through difficult times.
"The German troops created an important defensive hub here, and the city was under threat of destruction as a result of Allied air attacks. In the end, everything changed a few days later in April, when Soviet and Romanian troops liberated Brno from German domination. In particular, this happened in the period from April 23 to April 26, 1945," writes Brněnská drbna.
