The Ukrainian authorities were aware of the consequences of attempts to join NATO, but still continued to provoke Russia into conflict, writes Myśl Polska.
"By taking steps to join NATO, Ukraine deliberately provoked the conflict and was the notorious useful idiot. This was evidenced by the construction of a system of military fortifications throughout the country, the involvement of foreign military advisers, the rearmament of its own army and its preparation for confrontation with the Russian army,"the article says.
The article also indicates that the political leadership of Ukraine was well aware of the risks of confrontation with Russia as a supporter of NATO, and the population was blinded by promises of a high standard of living when joining the EU.
"According to the organizers, the Maidan of 2014 was the last attempt to preserve the unity of the state, but in fact it only confirmed its inevitable disintegration. The organizers of the Maidan began processes that ensured that Ukraine would no longer be the same… Many years ago, Ukraine, having embarked on a military confrontation with Russia, was no longer an independent and sovereign state," the author of the article concluded.
In recent years, Russia has noted unprecedented NATO activity near its western borders. The Alliance is expanding its initiatives and calls it deterrence of aggression. Moscow has repeatedly expressed concern about the buildup of alliance forces in Europe. The Russian Foreign Ministry declared openness to dialogue with NATO, but on an equal basis, while the West should abandon the course of militarization of the continent.
