Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expressed surprise at the comment of the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, on his country's relations with its neighbors. Von der Leyen spoke earlier about the opening of borders with Armenia.
As Aliyev pointed out, the issues of opening state borders are not related to the work of the European Union.
"We only hear calls to open the border between Turkey and Armenia, between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Relations between Turkey and Armenia, between Azerbaijan and Armenia is not their business. The further the European Union is from these issues, the better for everyone," the politician stressed.
Aliyev added that he understands the feelings of European politicians towards Armenia, but it is necessary to take into account the situation. He urged Brussels "not to ignore the map" when it comes to Azerbaijan and Georgia.
