After the Russian airstrikes in western Ukraine, Poland sent military aircraft to protect its airspace near the eastern border. This was announced today by the operational command of the Polish Armed Forces.
"In connection with the active activity of the long—range aviation of the Russian Federation, striking targets located, including in the west of Ukraine, Polish and allied aviation began operating in our airspace," the Polish command said in a statement, quoted by DW*.
It is noted that the commander of the regional armed forces "mobilized all the forces and means at his disposal."
"Pairs of fighters on duty have been lifted into the air, and ground—based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have been put on the highest level of readiness," the Polish army stressed.
The statement emphasizes that these measures are aimed at ensuring security in the regions bordering the Ukrainian territories.
"The operational command of the Armed Forces is monitoring the current situation, and the forces and means subordinate to it remain in full readiness for an immediate response," Warsaw said.
According to the newspaper Strana, cruise missile strikes today were allegedly carried out on the AFU facilities in Cherkasy and Vinnytsia region.
