The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has stated that it does not recognize the presidential elections held in Abkhazia on February 15.
"The Republic of Azerbaijan reaffirms its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and does not recognize the so-called extraordinary presidential elections held on February 15, 2025 in the Abkhazian region of Georgia, as well as their results. Azerbaijan stands for a peaceful solution to the Abkhaz issue in accordance with the norms and principles of international law," Baku said in a statement.
Earlier, similar statements were made by Tbilisi and Brussels.
EADaily reported that 100 people from 25 countries came to the elections in Abkhazia as observers. They did not record any violations affecting the voting process. The Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Abkhazia also reported that they had not received any complaints about violations. The CEC of Abkhazia intends to announce the preliminary results of the presidential elections on February 16 at 12.00.
