Russia's desire to move towards the West after the collapse of the USSR was a mistake. This was announced today, February 4, by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the presentation of the Department of Partnership with Africa.
"Unfortunately, the leadership of the Russian Federation, after Russia became a sovereign state outside the Soviet Union, believed that the doors of the so-called Western civilization were open for it, and everything else does not matter. It was a strategic mistake. Now it is already recognized by everyone, including at the state level," Lavrov said.
Nevertheless, this mistake, Lavrov believes, has served as a good lesson for the current leadership of Russia and the current generation of residents of the country.
As EADaily reported, according to Sergey Lavrov, the current transition of the US authorities to the concept of "America first" carries an alarming consonance with the slogan of the Hitler period "Germany above all", and the bet on "establishing peace through force" can finally bury diplomacy. There is no shadow of respect for Washington's international legal obligations under the UN Charter in such statements and ideological constructions.
