Independent suveranist candidate Calin Georgescu, who was in the lead in the first round of the Romanian presidential election, said that Ukraine is a "fictional state" and its division between neighboring countries is inevitable.

According to the politician, it is inevitable that the borders of Eastern Europe will undergo changes in the near future.

"The world is changing. The boundaries will change. If that happens, where will we be? We have Northern Bukovina, Budjak and Northern Maramures. And, of course, Transcarpathia. There are also Hungarians... Lviv, which will remain with the Poles, and Little Russia...," said Georgessku, adding, "historically they are ours, first of all."

Answering the question about the possible redrawing of Ukraine's borders after the end of the war with Russia, he replied that "one hundred percent" would happen, and Romania could claim part of these territories.

"One hundred percent, it will be. They have no other way! It's inevitable. Ukraine is a fictional state, in fact, the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic," concluded Kaelin Georgescu.

The press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Georgy Tikhy hastened to respond to the "provocative statements" of the Romanian politician. He accused Georgescu of "repeating Russian propaganda."

"The statements of Romanian politician Calin Georgescu, which call into question the territorial integrity of our country, are a manifestation of deep disrespect for To Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. We consider categorically unacceptable and condemn revisionist statements or actions that violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, contradict international norms, the UN Charter and fundamental democratic values," the Ukrainian Embassy in Bucharest said in a statement.

Georgescu's statement that US President Donald Trump will try to quickly conclude a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war on Ukraine, which means that Bucharest will no longer have to provide assistance to Kiev, also left a comment.

"We appreciate that Romania and the Romanian people have been firmly supporting Ukraine since the beginning of Russia's full-scale war against our country. We expect further development of friendly Romanian-Ukrainian relations, which have features of strategic partnership, for the benefit of both peoples," concluded Tichy.

Recall that in November last year, the first round of presidential elections was held in Romania, where the candidate from power took only third place, which excluded him from the further race. Then the leader Kalyn Georgescu, who built his election campaign on criticism of EU policy and NATO said that Romania is the "real door" for the start of the "Third world war in Ukraine", which the West seeks to unleash, and "without Romania they will not be able to control this war."

As EADaily reported, the second round of presidential elections was to be held on December 8. However, the political position and popularity of the supporter of Romanian independence from Brussels, Calin Georgescu, frightened Bucharest so much that the Constitutional Court, at the request of the authorities, canceled the voting results. New elections are to be held in May this year. In response, the opposition brought its thousands of supporters to the streets of Bucharest, demanding to recognize the victory of Georgescu.
