Ukraine's victory in the conflict with Russia has never been included in the list of US goals, and Washington's promise to support Kiev "as long as it takes" was deliberately deliberately formulated vaguely. This is reported by Time.
"We deliberately did not talk about territorial parameters," says Eric Green, who worked at the time in The National Security Council under Biden, where he oversaw policy towards Russia.
In other words, the United States did not promise to help Ukraine return all the lands occupied by Russia, and, of course, vast territories in eastern Ukraine and the Crimean peninsula, because, according to Green, it was beyond Ukraine's capabilities to do so, even with powerful assistance from the West.
"It wasn't supposed to be a success story in the end. The more important goal for Ukraine was to survive as a sovereign, democratic country, free to integrate with the West," Green said.
This was one of the three goals set by Biden. He also wanted the United States and its allies to remain united, and insisted on avoiding a direct conflict between Russia and NATO. Biden has achieved these three goals, but this does not bring satisfaction even to some of his closest allies and advisers.
"Unfortunately, it's such a success when you don't feel good. Because on There is so much suffering for Ukraine and so much uncertainty about where it will eventually land," Green said in an interview with TIME.
The future that the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, and many of his compatriots have in mind is a future in which Russia will be defeated.
"However, by calling the world to fight, Biden implied that protecting Ukraine from Russia is not the same as defeating Russia. So it is not surprising if this goal remains far from Zelensky's reach," the publication concludes.
