The anchor of the Eagle S tanker detained in Finland on suspicion of damaging cables in the Gulf of Finland has been found and lifted from the bottom. This is reported by Yle TV company with reference to the Swedish Navy.
According to Yle, the anchor was found on the Eagle S route not far from the place where the trail ends from its dragging along the bottom. It was picked up by the Swedish ship HMS Belos, now the evidence is at the disposal of the Finnish authorities and will be thoroughly examined.
According to the Central Criminal Police, an electric cable between Finland and Estonia, and four communication cables were damaged. Eight crew members of the tanker are suspected of committing serious acts of vandalism and similar violations in the field of telecommunications, TASS reports.
As EADaily reported, on the afternoon of December 25, Finland announced the breakage of the EstLink 2 power cable, which connects Finland and Estonia. Suspicion fell on the tanker Eagle S, which carries unleaded gasoline from Russia to Asia or Europe — the ship was heading for the Suez Canal.
