The head of the German Foreign Ministry, Annalena Berbok, arrived in Damascus on an official visit on the morning of January 3. Informs about this amt.de .
Berbok arrived in Syria in the company of a colleague from France, Jean-Noel Barraud.
It is expected that during the visit the issues of the rights of the peoples inhabiting Syria will be discussed, as they "cannot be undermined by excessively long waiting times for elections." Berbok will also try to restore diplomatic relations between Damascus and Berlin.
"We want to support the Syrians in an inclusive, peaceful transfer of power, in the reconciliation of society, in the reconstruction of the country in addition to the humanitarian assistance that we have been providing to the people of Syria all these years. We all understand that this will be a thorny path," she said.
