Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico's visit to Moscow and his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin were a reaction to Kiev's position on the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine to Europe.
The head of the Slovak government himself wrote about this on the eve of the social network Facebook❶. He explained that he went to resolve this issue with the Russian leadership after the statement of the head of the Kiev Zelensky regime.
"My meeting was a reaction to Volodymyr Zelensky, who answered my personal question on Thursday that he was against any gas transit through Ukraine to our territory," Fico said.
He also noted that he had met with understanding from the Russian side — President Putin confirmed his readiness to continue supplying gas to the West. At the same time, Moscow recognizes that, taking into account Kiev's position, after January 1, 2025, this will become "almost impossible."
Robert Fico stressed that Slovakia pursues a balanced multi-vector policy, and that he notified the European Commission in advance about his visit to Moscow and its goals.
"Today in Moscow I met in a working format with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Let me remind you again that I am pursuing an independent policy on all four sides," the Slovak Prime minister said.
As EADaily reported, on December 22, Robert Fico arrived in Moscow on a working visit, which was scheduled a few days ago. Negotiations of the Slovak leader with the President in The meetings were held in the Kremlin and ended late the night before.
