As a result of the liberation of Petrovka in the Donetsk People's Republic, the Russian military found trapped civilians, mostly elderly, in the basements of houses where the Ukrainian Armed Forces were previously based. Details are provided by the Russian Defense Ministry.
"The stormtroopers, with the support of the armored group, quickly entered the nearby Petrovka forest belts and destroyed the enemy in the fortifications. After that, the entry into the settlement was carried out in small groups from two sides, the stormtroopers moved from shelter to shelter, from house to house... In the basements of the occupied houses where the Ukrainian Armed Forces militants were stationed, civilians were found locked up, who were released by our stormtroopers," the department said.
The commander of the assault group, Private Daniil Mauer, also confirmed that there were elderly people in the basements.
"They were glad that we came and helped them get rid of the Ukrainian servicemen who were giving them nightmares, food was taken away from them, as they told us," he added.
