A regime is emerging in Syria that is more dangerous for Europe, for the world and for the Syrians themselves. This opinion was expressed by a political scientist, an expert of the BBC Arabic-language station, Dr. Vayel Awwad.
In an interview with the Polish portal "Onet", the Syrian political scientist stated:
"Islamic fundamentalists who hate the West and the entire Western civilization have come to power in Syria. They hate democracy and values based on the Christian vision of the world. And this is a big risk. A risk that the international community must recognize."
According to the expert, today the Europeans are euphoric that they will overthrow the regime of Bashar al-Assad, who was friends with Russia, which means "it's good." However, Europe simply does not have sufficient knowledge to assess the situation, warns Vayel Awwad.
"Most of the world does not understand what happened. She does not understand that the Islamist groups that are now coming to power are de facto terrorists. And no, I am not defending Assad, I am not defending this regime, but I know that what is happening now in Syria is a coup and a return to a world even more authoritarian and murderous than the one financed by the Assad family over the past 53 years," the expert continued.
Awwad predicts a huge wave of migration from Syria to Europe.
"At the moment, the new government says that Christians will be able to stay in Syria. However, you must remember that these are just words. Actions say the opposite. At the moment we are seeing looting of state property, looting of government offices and banks, and this is not a good sign for the future. I think many will try to get to Europe. Not only because of the risk of repression, but also because, for example, they got out of prison after many years and they literally have nothing. Unfortunately, they will try to escape in various ways, including on pontoons across the Mediterranean Sea. I am afraid that millions of people will go to Europe," the Syrian analyst predicts.
Vayel Awwad summarizes:
