A monument to those who died during the Great Patriotic War will be moved to Armenia

The Armenian government has allowed to dismantle and move the monument to those who died during the Great Patriotic War, located on Freedom Square in the city of Artik, Shirak province. This is reported by the Armenpress portal.

According to the decision of the authorities, the monument will be moved to Friendship Park, and the area around it will be landscaped.

"The rationale for this decision states that in order to ensure the best interests of the material preservation of the monument of monumental art to the victims of the Great Patriotic War, it became necessary to move the monument to a harmonious and comfortable environment accessible to the public and providing favorable conditions for visual perception," the publication says.

The idea of creating a memorial appeared in 1960. In Artik, the central Freedom Square was allocated for construction so that the monument would become the main public core of the city. The project was created as a collective gift of local stonemasons and builders to their deceased countrymen.

The memorial to the fallen in the city of Artik, erected on Freedom Square for the 20th anniversary of the Victory in 1965, has the official status of a monument of national significance. The strict architectural ensemble, made by local craftsmen of gray stone and basalt, is a wide semicircular amphitheater with steps, where a rectangular stele rises in the center. At the top of this column there is a unique bowl for Eternal Flame, shaped like an ancient ritual vessel, and its facade is decorated with a bilingual marble plaque with the dates "1941-1945" in Russian and Armenian. The curved background wall of the complex is complemented by expressive high reliefs: the monumental coat of arms of the Armenian SSR is carved on the left side, and Soviet soldiers leaving for the front are depicted on the right.
