It is most likely that Moscow will approve the new Russian ambassador to Director of the North America Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, former Ambassador to Canada of Alexander Darchiev.

Darchiev began his career in the Russian diplomatic department in 1992. He held the posts of Adviser to the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Washington, Deputy Director of the North America Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Envoy Adviser to the United States. In 2014, he was appointed Ambassador of Russia to Canada, remained in this post for seven years.

As it became known later, Darchiev arrived today in The State Duma, where, as expected, the candidacy of a new Russian ambassador to the United States may be considered.

On November 9, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed to TASS that only one candidate for the post of Russian ambassador to the United States is being considered, and this person is already undergoing the registration procedure.

Since 2017, the Ambassador of Russia to Anatoly Antonov was in Washington, who was removed from this post and recalled to Moscow in October by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
