More than 100 thousand people have already planned holidays in Abkhazia for the summer of 2025. But tourists cancel reservations, according to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia.
"The riots in Abkhazia have had a lesser impact on the rest of Russian tourists in the country at the moment, but travelers are reconsidering plans for the summer. Abkhazia is in the TOP 3 among major tour operators in terms of early booking volumes. But at the moment, companies have something to offer tourists as an alternative," ATOR notes.
An alternative to rest in neighboring Abkhazia, according to the popularity of offers by tour operators, is Thailand.
EADaily reported that opposition forces occupied the buildings of the government complex in Sukhumi and demand the early resignation of President Aslan Bzhania.
The Russian Foreign Ministry recommended its citizens to refrain from traveling to Abkhazia and stay away from places of unrest. The Ministry of Economic Development of Russia, in turn, recommended the tourism business to suspend the sale of tours to Abkhazia.
The Ministry of Tourism of Abkhazia, for its part, stated that the internal political processes taking place in Abkhazia will not affect the rest of tourists in the republic in any way.
"All agreements with tour operators remain in force, and the recreation infrastructure continues to operate as usual. Tourists can not worry about their safety and be sure that they will be able to relax in a calm environment," the statement said.
