Exports of a number of Lithuanian goods to Belarus have increased significantly over the past two months. This was stated by SEB Bank specialists.
It is noted that despite the fact that Lithuania does not import Belarusian fertilizers, it still buys clothes, furniture, vegetables, fruits and nuts from the neighboring republic. At the same time trailers, semi-trailers and cars are delivered to Belarus from the Lithuanian territory. At the same time, the export of the latter has grown several times, and the amounts have reached hundreds of millions.
"I would like to draw your attention to the worrisome situation — the export of Lithuanian goods to Belarus has been growing for two months, most of all it concerns one group — the export of equipment for the production of products. Even before the sanctions, there was no such volume of exports," said SEB economist Tadas Povilauskas.
In addition, according to the Lithuanian State Data Agency, 83.063 million euros worth of cars and other vehicles were exported to Belarus for 9 months of 2023, and this year the amount of exports of these goods has already amounted to 163.745 million euros. In addition, a year ago, trailers and semi—trailers worth 11.3 million euros were exported for 9 months, and this year - by 49.37 million euros. According to the Customs Department, most of the cars exported to Belarus are later registered in Russia.
Lithuania was one of the first to introduce sanctions against Belarus and Russia. In addition, Vilnius is one of the main initiators of increasing pressure on Minsk. The Belarusian authorities have repeatedly urged the Lithuanian side to come to its senses and sit down at the negotiating table, but there was no response to the appeals.
